Here's an exchange that took place in that Ask A Question/Answer a Question Thread:

Here's my retort
No state.

Hit me up via PM if there really is proof of a state. Otherwise, I don't buy it.
Point is, if anybody knows the state - Chicken Fucker? You said it's 100% - please let me know & I'll delete this Thread. I'm pretty sure that's one of their ongoing gags, though.
Thanks.

that is one of their ongoing gags, since there is a Springfield in a few different states

I've met and talked to Matt Groening.
The most he'll ever say about what state Springfield is in is that there's a Springfield in his home state of Oregon. But since Springfield Oregon doesn't have a nuclear power plant, a corrupt mayor or an ocean dock, he stops short there.
There is a Springfield in every state in this country.
The whole point of not knowing what state Springfield is in is to reinforce the "generic americana" of The Simpsons. The characters in the Simpsons are meant to represent any and every american. Their shortcomings, their flaws and their virtues are universal in this country.
Binding The Simpsons to a specific state would put an aire of regionality to the intended ambiguity of Springfield represening "anytown USA."
To say, for example, it's in Springfield Oregon would mean attaching a whole slew of predisposed opinions about Oregon and its citizens, and applying those predjudices to the Simpsons would defeat the whole point of the show.
So just let Springfield be SPRINGFIELD for chrissakes!
Thanks Rod - and thanks again for getting back to me on that PM - but I'm looking specifically to get this cats' take on it; a lot of people think they have theories, and he sounded pretty damn sure (100% sure, in fact).
Oh, and way to go on that Matt Groening name drop. You must be proud.

I thought it had been confirmed as Springfield, OR.
Isn't Weyerhauser supposed to be the Nuclear Power plant? And have you ever looked at the streetlights in the cartoon series?
Just a few observations.

Springfield is definitely "anytown, USA." 121 Springfields exist in the US. There is a Springfield next to Eugene,OR, Groening's childhood home, and the Simpsons' Springfield resembles Oregon's Springfield in certain ways. Whenever specific references are made to a state (real or fake), it's only because the writers want to keep the "what state are they in" debate going. Like in "Duffless" when Homer's license said "NT."
It's not just my theory, either. the writers and Groening often bring these points up in interviews.

Yes, he's from Oregon. And I know the character names are based on his sisters & parents. Great great & lovely.
Point is, this Thread is getting cashed as soon as I get a response from ChickenFucker.
