It's a strange place indeed.

For some reason a very large group of hippies populated it and their children are now becoming adults. It's a very strange way to live.

In most cities it seems like there is a part of the population that lives in poverty, whether because of children, drugs or otherwise but in Eugene it feels like more than the average percentage of folks is poor. The weird thing is that most of them seem perfectly happy being destitute. I know quite a few kids who even attend LCC but live in the woods because they refuse to try and find jobs.

It just has a very weird feel ::shrugs:: I'm used to it though.

the reason that eugene is the way it is is that all the kids here were raised by hippies, so we are the modern urban wasteland.

or maybe its that the cops don't care enough to show up when shit explodes....

I have a friend at school who is blind. Whenever we go our seperate ways I say "See ya later!"... kicking myself in the ass after words every time. Such a simple phrase like this (that I say habitually every day) sounds so wrong when I say it to someone who cannot SEE.

This girl at a deli had two red dots above both her eyebrows. I thought they looked cool and complimented her on them...
She had been in a car wreck and they were scars from a traction device she had been in. I felt SO stupid. I really thought they looked exotic and tribal... I have GOT to stop sticking my foot in my mouth.
