"Make Art, Not War! invites you to express your feelings about the war in Iraq through color, image and the written word. Our giant sidewalk mural, filled with multiple messages in colorful, non-toxic chalk pastel, is intended to declare peace on the Middle East with a unified public voice.

Even if you do not consider yourself an artist, Make Art, Not War! welcomes your support through volunteering, or friendly conversation at the event. "

"Our group of volunteer artists, parents and activists had given up hope of creating a community-led Peace Mural at Seattle Center. Previously, the weather had not been with us, and now, of course, the US is at war with Iraq. Once the Bagdad bombings began, our project seemed too late and irrelevent.

But we were wrong. We have received more e-mails in the last few days from folks wanting to participate in the Peace Mural -- desperate to have a way to voice their frustration at this war, in all of its dimensions.

And so, we announce our last possible date for this event--meant to bring together artists, families and pacifists of all stripes, polka dots and colors. The Peace Mural is scheduled for Sunday, March 30 from noon to 4pm. Look for us at the bottom of the black driveway that circles the South Fountain Center Lawn in yellow t-shirts ready to hand out sets of highly-colored artists chalks.

Rainy weather will cancel this event, unfortunately. So please check our web site before you head to Seattle Center to determine whether it is happening. We can be found at www.togetherweareone.com/makeartnotwar/index.htm. We will update the site by 11am on Sunday morning. Or, you can call the Seattle Center customer service phone at 684-7200.

When you come, we suggest that you bring something to kneel on, something to drink and a donation for the chalks. We have plenty of Girl Scout cookies donated for the peace troops!

Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Peace Mural, an opportunity to make your own statement about the meaning and value of peace in color, shapes and words."
