Ok, best way to learn how to use the sewing machine is just to use it as much as possible. A few years I had a friend who made amazing pants but he wouldn't teach me how to make anything!!! All he said was to look at a pair of pants and try to reproduce them. I took his advice and have been making pants ever since. Just look at different clothes and pants and try to figure out how they were put together...everything item of clothing is like a puzzle...its pretty cool when you figure out how to recreate it. But if ya need some pointers you can email me...

Ummm...well, if you can stand wearing a lot of red you could be a fire being...make your pants flames...I thinking some sorta aplique/patchwork effect going on with red, orange and yellow fabric making the flames. Fleece would be super dope and super comfy. Thats getting a little more complicated but fleece is super easy to sew.

McCall's actually has a pattern for phat pants. You can just modify them and make them even fatter.
I love my sewing machine. I'm always looking for things to sew. I'm addicted you know. I'm a straight boy that loves to sew. Last night my gf was sewing a quilt and I was fixing my jacket on my machine. What a cute sight eh?
Anyhow sewing's easy just measure once and cut twice...er...reverse that.

Hey! phatty pants ARE SOO EASY TO MAKE! yeah they are..
the recipe: take your fave pair of pants, put them on a piece of cardboard pocket to pocket, and trace around them, keeping the waist the same, but extending the legs as much as you want.. flip over and trace on another peice of cardboard and trace agian.
then fold the pants the other way, (pocket to pocket agian) and trace both of these sides.
then, cut out cloth with the tracings, and sew together, addin a zipper and pockets. supa easy! and i DONT suggest fleece... when u dance itll get SOOOO hot! (i KNOW THIS)
fleece pants should be for cold outdoor parties only.
much luv!

Fleece is the way to go. You just have to make the pants big enough on the bottoms so ventilation goes up. I have never been uncomfortabley hot in my fleece pants and I wear fleece almost every time I groove! I think fleece is the maximun comfort fabric.

Actually... 3 ply Supplex is the way to go. heh.
The pair that I'm showing at the Fashion Show on Sunday here in Olympia is made out of 3 ply Supplex which is waterresistant, breathable and wicks the sweat away. Plus it looks and feels pretty good too. The problem is that you can only get it at Seattle Fabrics and I've never seen it anywhere else.
I came up with a ventilation system idea that will go with "fuzzy" pants... Just remember: Heat rises!

Anyone know about how much all of this costs...one pare of fleece pants costs about how much? Is it really expensive or super cheap, and where in seattle would you say the best place to go is?
bsweet

Fleece is average $8 a yard. My personal favorite fabric store is Hancock Fabrics; there is one in West Seattle. They have the best selection; always a HUGE amount of fleece and usually there are good sales going on. I usually get about three yards of fabric for a pair of pants, but with fleece you can get away with 2 1/2 yards because it is 60" wide (most other fabric is only 45" wide).
Another place that you could get cheap fleece is Walmart. The prices I saw there were $5.97-$7.97 a yard for fleece. Decent selection too.

Kim et al,
I'm interested in making clothes for people on a casual basis. I'm still not very good at it so I wouldn't charge much at all. I'd be doing it mostly for the fun of it. The only thing is that it'll probably be March 2004 before your clothes are done since I'm on the over scheduled side of things.
I'm currently making a snorkel blanket... for those nights where the monsters are out in full force. So you can go completely under the blanket without suffocating.

Where can I find feathers??!!! Real feathers!!?? I need them ever so badly for wings. I have no urge to buy the ones in the window @ Metro or the Pink Zone.
