We're at war in Iraq, you goddamn idiots. Unless you enjoy having civilians killed because they are mistaken for the enemy, this is called common sense.
"I'm incredibly angry and bitter that the Iraqi people have been liberated, because it means that I was wrong the entire time.. I guess I'll have to come off looking like a moron by trying to paint a picture that Iraqis have actually lost freedom by being liberated from underneath Saddam's thumb."

Common sense people. Common sense. Marshall Law can be declared in times of emergency in the United States. Wartime conditions would undoubtably qualify as such.

The true measure of the freedom of the Iraqi people, who we decided in retrospect this war was about, will be what happens to the natural resources of their country. The distribution of wealth which will result from the lifting of sanctions will tell us who got the freedom and who didn't. To be fair, it should probably be set up in trust so that the country isn't looted by multinational corporations. The Economist has an interesting article (http://www.economist.com/business/displayStory.cfm?story_id=1702288) on the subject.

it's a gun amnesty program, asking them to give up their guns.
how does this in any way infringe upon their freedoms
soldiers are going to assume that any unknown with a gun is a potential combatant, for their own safety. so citizens not running around with guns is better for all involved.

you are the village idiot.
IT IS AN AMNESTY PROGRAM ASKING THEM TO GIVE UP THEIR GUNS. ALL THEY DID WAS DIG A FUCKING PIT AND TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE FREE TO DISPOSE OF THEIR GUNS THERE. NO ONE IS BEING FORCED IN ANY WAY.
Even better, this is a BRITISH program. Not even an american program!
Did you even read this article before firing up your idiotbox to post here about it?

They don't need to, they are being offered the opportunity.
Are you against them even having the opportunity?
Perhaps you should start a campaign to send guns to the Iraqis if you're so worried ;)

the dont want an chance to give away there gun.....why would they, guns are part of there life there..
that be like going to gary indiana and doing the same program....lol
plus i'm sure that if they wanted to get rid of there guns, they could do it on there own...i dont think anyone has to dig a hole for them....they might be able to dig one for themself.

 First off, not all arabs are gun loving maniacs. My uncle is Iraqi, although raised in america, and he and his father (who was raised in Iraq) are not gun freaks.
Besides, if the arabs choose not to get rid of their guns, fine. Why do you care so much about getting rid of this program? What harm can it possibly do?
or are you just willing to criticize anything the coalition does?

i never said they were gun totting freaks, what i did say is, 99.9% of arabs have guns in there house for defense(not american arabs either.....but thanks for tring to make a stupid point)
just like the people of gary have 99.9% of houses have guns for protection...why start a program like this? it just implys the iraqi's are too dumb to get rid of there guns on there own, if they want to.

Got any sort of citation, or did you just make those numbers up off the top of your head?

That's ridiculously farfetched. I seriously doubt any Iraqis are going to have time to be insulted by something like that (even if they were so inclined, which I doubt), they're pretty busy over there.

Or how he fielded endless, uncomfortable questions, he says, about the Yemeni custom of carrying guns.
"I tried to explain that it's ceremonial," he says, wearing a grin that never fades. "It's, like, our national dress. Like a Michael Jordan T-shirt!"

------basically saying that carring guns is a way of life in yemen..lets move on.
In the March 11 New York Times, Neil MacFarquhar notes in passing, "Most Iraqi households own at least one gun." This comes as a shock to those of us who've been hearing for years from the gun lobby that widespread firearms ownership is necessary to prevent the United States from becoming a police state

sadly i wont be doing all your research for you, but it is a fact, stats say that 50% of american households have weapons..............and we dont even need protection like they do.....you do the math.

Yes, let's unless you're prepared to claim Yemen = Iraq.

I can't verify context at all. After following the three links I needed to get to the NY Times story, even with my free membership, I'm required to pay to view the portion of the article containing the relevant quote.
So I have no way of telling what the context of Mr MacFarquhar's "note in passing" was, or what sources he used.
