"The nightmare that Saddam Hussein has brought to your nation will soon be over," Bush said. "You deserve better than terror and corruption"

...The 4th infantry should be up to the task of maintaining some order while Iraq is stabalized. After all, they missed the war.

I can't imagine the huge force of will it must take to pretend that "terror and corruption" in the US is anything similar to the "terror and corruption" iraqis suffered under Hussein.
Amazing.

Tell that to Iraqis who have never had the opportunity to choose their leader, because they are ruled by a dictator.
Tell that to an Iraqi who had a family member thrown in a plastic chipper by their own gov't for having different political beliefs.
Tell that to one of the 5000+ Iraqis who were gassed by their own gov't for daring to ask for the right to choose their leader.

Any comments, 186?

Having just read the story in question, I don't really see anything more "chaotic" than what one might expect during a war. In fact, a religious leader killed, a few marines blown up... compared to the gigantic destruction and chaos we saw in WWI, WWII, Vietnam... Baghdad is docile indeed.

Hey 186, In case you had not noticed, people are just not in the frame of mind to even discuss ANY criticism of the United States in any form at this time.

I feel like the points you bring up have valid merit and deserve attention, however when people who usually have positive comments to make resort to pure sarcasm in their posts, it should be an indication to the rest of us that they are just not in the mind set to discuss such issues.

I realize that I am first at fault when it comes to discussing domestic issues that are less than favorable, however I do not like this "Anti-American" rift that is being created by all of us simply by the discussion of these things.

We know that we are not Anti-American, but from the pulse of the board lately, there seems to be some serious doubt from other members.
So I don't know about you, but for me personally, perhapes it is time to discuss some of the things we appreciate about America until the mind set presents it's self to re-discuss serious pit-falls.

It is easy to see the fault in anything around us, and when times are good and the future is certain, such discussions can be beneficial. But it would seem that maybe others are not so ready to hear the bad and would much rather hear the good. And maybe that is what is needed. I am not saying that things that we do not agree with should not be discussed, I'm just saying that personally, I am really tired of being disrespected and labled as a whole due to a couple of beliefs I have.

After all we DO "Create Our Own Reality" and sometimes, concentrating on the bad does not fix it, it just makes it worse.

just my 2 cents....

Scott!!

Equivocating the Baath Party in Iraq with the US Government doesn't deserve attention. It's stupid Scott. Critism is ok, stupidity is not. [lafs]

Yes, I'm nodding my head now.. but lets bat around something else shall we? :)

Baghdad didn't just slip into chaos, it's been in chaos for decades while that brutal dictator Saddam has had his grip over the throats of the Iraqi people.

Take care,
Jason

good point Effendi,
Ill try to tennor my posts more to this effect.. I agree with you about the constant negative sentiments becoming destructive and without purpose,.. therefore, in the past several weeks, Ive evaluated & re-evaluated my position on this matter, and have discovered mixed feelings on this issue.. On one hand - this is the internet, and these are emotionally charged issues that deserve open & honest discussion. One the other, there is a definite split in the board on issues regarding Iraq, terrorism, etc, - and have proven to be well established and valid from their perspectives.. thats fine.. I believe its called synergy.. but I'll also be the first to admit, I have played a perhaps too large part in the stirring of the mud., not to mention slinging it too..
so, I appologize, and pledge to cool my engines for a bit, because I am not anti-american, or anti-anyone here on the board.,

thanks.

I’m sorry I don't believe this discussion was an action item on today’s agenda. I move this topic be split via an adhocratic committee compiled of outsourced moderators who will own Project Synergy. They will evaluate said slinging of mud and all of said mudslinging participants, and provide human resources with a status report for the brownbag on Monday.

Thank you for your time.
