I'm sorry, those turntables are for hi-fi audio buffs, who know their frequency output with their scientific mumbo jumbo........
It's cool looking, I'll give it that, but I'd rather own 1200's.....

Taken off the Stereophile site.....
We love those LPs, and we know they can sound good—certainly better than CDs—but can a stone dragged through a vinyl drainage ditch ever sound $73,750 worth of good?
With its air-suspension isolation stand, air-bearing platter (both the axial and radial loads are supported by air), captured air-bearing arm, and direct-drive brushless motor, the System III Sirius's only mechanical contact is that of stylus and record. No belt, no springs, no thrust plate and ball bearing, no bushings—and, unfortunately, no way most of us will ever be able to afford the thing.

what are you talking about? i know i'll get a lot of shit for this, but Numark's TTX-1 (though we don't yet know how long they last) works better than mk2's.
oh, and last time i checked, key lock and (gasp!) over +/- 8% pitch adjust aren't junk.
look at me! i like to bash on anything that's not Techs to make myself look cool with all those D.J.'s!

A new house, or a turntable, hmm? A couple of new cars, or a turntable? I just can't decide!!!

I used to know this guy that had a record player that looked kind of like that. You'd go over to his house and he'd spend the whole time telling you about his fantastic signal/noise ratio and perfect stereo separation blah blah blah.
He had the crappiest record collection I've EVER seen.

Speaking of 1200's, I saw some in BPM not long ago that were interesting. Commemorative (though I forget what they commemorated) gold plated tech's. PLatter was gold trimmed, the face plate was gold trimmed, everything was farkin perfect. I wouldn't know whether to spin on them, or polish them

I don't see why all these indie rock fuckers waste their time on extremely expensive hi-fi gear so as they can get the ultimate analog sound, when all is lost anyways cause it's recorded digitally.

huzzuh for irony. same goes for electronic dancey music!

and here, for your perverse enjoyment, are some speakers to make you cum. they automaticly tune themselves to any room you place them in (with a mobile microphone contained inside). they have an 'acoustic lens', so no matter where in the room you are, it sounds exactly the same. All for the meager price of $25k each. (if i remember right. o.o)

I'm not sure if the people dissing belt drives are kidding? They're no good for DJing, but they sound a lot better. On a direct drive vibrations from the motor go straight through the platter into the tone arm.
Try running a recording off a 1200 into a frequency analyzer. There's always a ton of garbage sound from the motor around 40hz. Anything I sample off the 12s goes through a 50hz highpass first, otherwise you have crummy semi-audible low end energy that fucks up your mixdown.
I bought a homebrew audiophile turntable off a stereo engineer a couple years ago - magnetic floatation platter, weird hand-lathed plexiglass, laquered fir, crazy Swedish tonearm. I blew out too much of my hearing DJ'ing to ever be a real audiophile, but it does sound way, way better than 1200s.
