if you were trying to say a 1 mile radius, no one would be able to here it.

I don't know how many of you guys know about FM transmitters, etc, But that transmitter can be easily and quickly upgraded to a wider range by simply boosting the power output on the transmitter, and by moving it to a higher location.

*shrug*

That was just one source... transmitter kits are pretty easily made, too...

Whoops.... letting my nerd side show through...

I don't even live over there, but am in town enough to agree.....good luck guys/girlies! There are a few shows in the area, but a station that has certain types/dj's playing at times somewhat like Groovetech, would be dope to have on the air!

Hope you figure something out! You have my support!

hasta kiddz,

Scoob

Hey,
If you guys ever do get up a radio station, you guys need to put a real audio connection to it, so I can hear it k. Oh yeah, and don't fall under the corporate ladder. I used to be a music director at a college radio station and huge labels like Capitol, Warner Bros. and even Moonshine (YES MOONSHINE!) think they own you now just cause they send you music. So, in other words, don't sell out!

I think if you guys want a station up there you have to show that it can advertise to several demografiks. Whether we like it or not radio is all about money. A friend and i produced a syndicated hip hop radio show and the biggest seller we had wasn't the quality rather our ability to show them it was to their advantage to play our show in the proper time slots. Someone should produce a couple shows, which entails much more than you may think and find a way to get them on the air and see what reaction it gets and go from there. good luck http://www.hyperreal.org/~gruvnkim/ubb/smile.gif

everything is becoming so.....blurred
p.s. transmitters are a pain and take to much time to baby

Hey, not that I live in seattle but in Pullman Washington, I run my own pirate station......just look for pirate radio stuff on the net. Also, if you worked with enough people you could run radio clones....have a new transmitter sending the original signal out into another area....also broadcast via cable lines, so us folks with Cable Radios get it too.... http://www.hyperreal.org/~gruvnkim/ubb/smile.gif

E-mail me if you have questions.....

Or you guys could just wait for 2 more years
when radio stations like kndd dont exist anymore because the cost of running them is honestly 300% more than what they're worth...soon the only radio stations left will be internet stations. Investing in a quality net broadcast is much better than a $100,000,000 radio station...until then you're stuck with what you've got(ultrasound, aftershock, electrobox, xpansions, nocturnal transmissions)

I dont know about that Timmy - Kndd is actually owned by Viacom, & is only a small business venture, in comparison to all their other companies. Although I couldn't agree w/ you more about their playlist not being worth a shi@. (yeah Bliss - besides Ultrasound)

My brother works there > and tells me its not about the music - its a business, and nothing more.

I'd love to talk to anybody interested in getting a true electronic station started _ I am sure, very very sure, it would be a smashing success here in JetCity........................isn't it behind its time!!!!?

Actually KNDD is owned by Entercom...they bought it for $300,000,000 they make a gross total of $800,000 a year. My point was that radio stations are not an intelligent business venture, and as soon as major coporations like Entercom, Viacom, and Fisher realize that then s**t will go down http://www.hyperreal.org/~gruvnkim/ubb/smile.gif That's when will see the rise of internet radio, and the demise of multi-million dollar broadcasting companies http://www.hyperreal.org/~gruvnkim/ubb/smile.gif

Right! - I knew it was some Damn -Com crap. the only problem I see w/ net radio - is its limited to computer users - and only 1/3 of those being mobile. To me that doesnt sound like a sound business venture if its goal is to make money. I'd like to see something like Groovetech - broadcasting airwaves, so it can be accessed by anybody.

yeah? ...

i once looked into starting a radio station. the problem, as i understood it, is that there are a limited number of bands on the frequencies or something like this, and the future of radio is actually digital. altho i love the idea of a pirate radio station for sure. im just saying if you ask me you either have to do it completely underground like so, or go completely future. i support the underground myself. good luck.

To get "internet radio" to really happen, we're going to need til we have ubiquitous networking with a sufficient bandwidth and good quality of service. Lots 'o' folks see the value in this, as it works for all data services, not just audio. It'll get there... remain calm.

Perhaps the only use for radio as we know it now will be to get audio to cars far away from any urban area...

...but what do I know.

Ok, here is the deal, I have been in radio since 1987, and over the years I have aquired some knowledgable friends in the industry, and a phat file on Pirate stations, I even have a very small, stereo FM transmitter, I just haven't used it in a while, One thing it will cost is money.....but if anyone really wants to try, and risk FCC capture (not likly to happen these days) contact me...

we are going to start a northwest webradio station that focuses on techno and alternative news at pulpfiction next month

the problem with local radio stations is after the telecommuniactions act of 96, 5 companies bought all the local stations and it is millions to buy one of these

the good news is the web will eventually be able to reach you in your car

there are some other techno radio stations as well on the web

peace out

FYI
Today KCMU started live webcasting (acutally delayed about 14 sec).
Check out there site - they will be doing more web-based stuff in the future... www.kcmu.org (http://www.kcmu.org) , as groovinkim said earlier.

Tuesday, Thuradays, and Saturdays after 9pm are great electronic themed shows..

just wanted to further promote KCMU 90.3...

some of my favorite shows are:
***Street Sounds - Sunday 6pm-8pm (if you like hip-hop and rap check this out, they play a lot of local stuff)
***Expansions - Sat. 9pm-11pm and Sun. 8pm-10pm (DJ Riz/Nasir/Massa have a very eclectic mix and often some really good drum&bass/jungle)
***DJ Riz - Wednesdays 9pm-1am
***The Best Ambiance - 6pm-9pm (music from all over Africa, great variety...could expand your musical horizons)

OK that's my plug for the best radio station ever...

I'm with timmy on this one ... they can now stack signals on fiber-optic lines and as soon as they perfect the amplification stations bandwidth will be dirt cheap ... internet radio will be the way to go ... everyone will have DSL or the like so it'll be easy.

hurrah fer nerds
