I'm in the market for a 3 channel mixer. I can't afford a Rane Empath, and won't be able to any time in the next year probably. What are my other options? Vestax Pcv-275, Stanton SMX-401, others? Needs an fx send/return too.

save up for the empath--dont by a mixer unless its the one you really want---otherwise you'll be like---fuck man if i only bought that empath id be in heaven now

just hold out and get the good shit man----djing aint cheap and its just frustrating when you buy cheap----im not saying that the empath is the right mixer for you personally just that quality comes with a price

go to guitar center and make them let you try out all there mixers----figure out what works best for you....if its the one you cant afford then---wait till you can

just my 2 cents

im probably gonn be saving up for an emapth for 6 months when i get back home---but its better than buying one in a month and then a month after that just wanting the empath more----

I would save for the Empath if I could...but in my current financial situation, that'd take about a year, and that just won't work. I pretty much have to use my GC card to buy it if I want anything, and I don't have a whole lot of available credit left. And for what I need right now, a 2 channel mixer just isn't working anymore.

I just recently steped it up from my Stanton and picked up an Empath and so far an not to empressed with it.. DONT get me wrong! I love it but I really just can't see anything really really special about it. Very smooth though. GO Rane or go home though..

someone should show me the light. What is really so great about the Empath?

if you just need a mixer for practicing at home, get the Gemini 626. It's a great 3 channel mixer, tough as hell. Sounds like shit, but I bet your stereo sounds worse ;) you can pick up a used one for VERY cheap, and a new one runs a little over a hundred, I believe.
All the features you need, including a fabulous headphone crossfader...
It was my first mixer (bought used), which I sold a over a year later to Jizosh who used and abused it for quite a bit longer before it was brutally murdered... or something...

The Empath sounds like sex. The faders are super-smooth, and it's got a robust effects controlling system.

The cueing system is also quite customizable. Ooh ooh, and you can also plug in two sets of headphones (.25" and 3.5mm) if you're into that sort of thing. The main and aux out are also nice.

Rubberized knobs, EQ reset switches... *sigh*
