Word, I am in a tour of South Korea right now and I think this would be a su-perb time to learn how to scratch. Just picked up an Empath, What is good practice? I only brought House n Techno with me. Should I try to get my hands on one of those "learn to scratch" tapes or what? haha...

Just getting a little board of beat matching. Think it's bout time to step it up>>> Is there anything out their to try.

Print yourself a copy of www.asisphonics.net/skratchtutorial.html if you can. Thats essentially the skratch bible. People can debate it all they want but it's the most comprehensive coverage of scratching.

Oh yeah, you'll needa scratch record. Peep cop porn breaks, as they're skip proof and on point. Also nab some hip hop beats, preferably any of the dirt style series cause they're simple and banging.

Good luck amigo :)

Get yourself some "superseal breaks" and some "Hee Haw" Breaks. Like Jesse said, "cop porn" is good too.

Try to buy doubles for beat-juggling also.

Well I picked up my Empath at the guitar center in Beaverton for $999.00 (outch!) but oh well it is rock solid and a lot of fun!

Sure, get those scratch records, but also go to an old vinyl store with vinyl of all types of music and genres and go digging for some wicked cuts... those stores have the coolest records with some tripped out samples. Then you'll most likely have your own stuff to scratch, and learn to be careful with scratching so you won't skip the record. Plus since you are in South korea you might find some cuts no one has ever used.

The Empath is sick. Love it to death.

You might need to get a different crossfader handle for scratching though.

Ummm... what your average ecuadorian would do is slink on over to guitar center and take one off of a vestax mixer. But yeah, stealing is bad.

You can purchase one. I think the empath comes with a knob thats better suited for scratching anyways. It's really not much of a scratch mixer. Thats not really it's purpose or layout.

true. old records are cheap and you can find tight shit to fuck with. but these old records can skip and scratching them can fuck them so basically jst take it easy on the old plates.

Scratch records are good for just learning the techniques and ease of learning. When you start going out and finding the rare funky shit, you should have skills to actually use them. It can often be quite tricky to get the cuts you want out of certain noises, or even recognize the potential of certain noises.

Seseme street is loaded with goodies for cutting however :)
