I have been spinning for about 3 months now. I am learning progressive house, house and tribal w/a bit of scratching for now. Basically I want to know if I am learning with the right gear. What is your opinion on my Stanton RM-80 6 channel mixer? I am starting to have problems with the cross-fader. Should I get a new fader or a new mixer? What kind mixer should I get in the $300.00 range? Any advice is much appreciated.

If you arent doing a whole lot of scratching...i.e. dont need a mixer thats specifically set up to accomodate that, then i would recommend this one i linked below. i used one a friend has and its pretty nice. esp for freakin $200.

Yea, I just replaced my Numark DM3002x ($250 retail) with a Tascam XS-8 ($150 at Guitar Center). The thing is slim, sleek, the EQ knobs cut the sound 100%, and the faders are nice & smooth. Probably the best $150 I've spent on DJ equipment over my entire time DJ'ing on one piece of equipment. My only complaint is, if you turn the EQs down on the cue channel, you lose the sound in the headphones... I like to be able to hear what's coming in even if the levels are down. Minor complaint though for an awesome little toy!
Also, I have this old pair of $80 JVC headphones that kick some serious ass. I highly reccomend them to the affordable DJ.

the BEHRINGER djx700 is probably the best buy you can ever find, you cant scratch with it, it has this great new fader life span, and it has the same effects as the pionner mixers for about $200!

drop a frost fader in that 07. if you don't know what they are, they are modified faders for vestax mixers that reduces the gap from on/off for cutting and scratching. they are super smooth compared to a regular vestax fader and frost gives a 6 month warranty on the faders.
they are dope, and feel the same as a samurai fader but cut closer to the edge for more scratching accuracy. they are more beefy too. i think he charges about $180 for his flagship fader. finding them are a little more difficult tho, as he was selling them on ebay and i haven't seen any on ebay recently. frost is also working on modding the djm faders to make them more scratch worthy and reliable.

I forget exactly how a frost fader is made, but it's a mixture of the a-mod and some other things. Anyways, my fader is plenty smooth, and I don't really need my curve any sharper. I scratch yes, but I'm not that heavily scratch oriented.
My main reason for getting the 07 is the eq faders. I wish I knew a mod to make them a bit smoother...

Well thanks for the help everybody. I just ordered a DJX700 yesterday. Now I've gotta wait for a week to get hands on it. That's to long, I want it now! Oh well.

Smoother, as in the curve on the eq faders. It's a bit more heavy towards the middle.
