should promoters give courtesy to other crews? clubs? cars? workin the crowd? booths?
what are your thoughts in general??
personally I think it's kewl in general. I do feel crews that would want to flier at a particular show should contact that promoter before the show. This is mostly for courtesy, and to talk about general feelings before the day of stress. I would also expect that any crew wanting to promoter at another show, would extend the same courtesy to other crews.
clubs? well that's their gig, they go every weekend, I kinda understand if they don't want you in their club "pulling their crowd", especially the night of.
I'm a big fan of arranging a booth with another promoter, maybe offer some sort of service or extra ambiance to the other show you are promoting at. This only helps add to the vibe of both shows, and is good PR in general. imho.
cars...that's kinda touchy with me. especially in seattle where it rains more then our fair share of days. It seems to cause more of a mess. I feel that excessive fliers in the crowd cause similar issues. I think anyone that has had to clean up wet fliers on a wet/dirty warehouse floor, parking lot, or outdoor venue, would agree, please don't cause excess clean up later. Or at bare minimum, help with clean up.

I know about 90% of promoters in Seattle do contact other promoters in advance or even last minute about promoting their own shows at an event only cause everyone knows that guestlists are printed out early and it works to give the heads up.
Sometimes showing up at the door last minute can get a promoter in only becuase everyone knows each other and so far we've all had a great formula developed in communicating with one another to plan events around each other respectfully.
If its raining, I will never bring a flyer in my car if its all soak and wet. The side view mirrors work everynow and then. I figure i will flyer as many people individually inside as much as i can and worry about cars on nice clear nights.

i don't like flyering cars, and i hate it when i get flyered that way. it makes me think that you have some kid with a stack of flyers to get rid of who couldn't care less where they go, and that in turn makes me think that your production crew is disorganized and/or too big to care. also, i'm not too into mass littering. ;)
i prefer flyering individuals and talking to them a bit about the party rather than shoving a flyer in their face. i also flyer selectively though; i give flyers to people who look like they are having fun rather than those who are practically passed out on the floor from too many intoxicants.
i also give courtesy to other crews, but only if i feel that they are doing something positive. there are a select few crews that i would not allow to flyer my parties, based on their attitudes towards the party scene in general. i don't really feel the need to assist in perpetuating a negativity that i don't agree with. but for almost everyone, definitely. it's nicer to have advance knowledge if a random anonymous representative plans on showing up with a stack of flyers, but if i know you personally and recognize you then of course it's not a problem.

It should be accepted practice that all promoters get into other events for free. It will make promotions easier, and we've all worked long and hard to get things where they are now, and that should be respected.

Yep yep.
i agree, that's the best way to get parties going.
it's a give and take thing.
i definitely don't like fliers at my car. i like it if people pass em out inside, or like at the hall where people leave a stack of fliers up by the water, that way you can pick up the ones that look interesting to you.

i like getting fliers on my car, that way i dont have to fold them up to fit into my pocket, and i dont have to carry them with me all night, nothing like a folded poster. I like the fact i get all the fliers in one nice pile right on my window or door. Its my parting gift :D

I have to say this. I let all known other promoter in my parties for free with out notice. In fact two larger promotion companies often have three or four guys show up at my parties expecting to get in for free, and sometimes they even have guests..I let themn all in for free... odd part is that neither of htose companies have allowed me to flier there parties.. period. wether its letting me in or even outside. So I have a general rule, My kids stay back a bit from the dorr and individual hand each flier out, and ask if they are going to kepp it. I have made it a very big deal to my street team to NOT let our fliers be seen on the ground! It still happens but its a good thought. Anyways my point is this. I now keep a list of each promoter that has street temas show up at my parties to flier. I let them in. However If I have difficulties at their door the next time I am there... I will extend the same cuortisy to their street team the next time. To note I never expect to get in to a party for free, unless I have money in it. I PAY FOR MYSELF TO GET INTO PARTIES TO FLIER now my street team I usually ask it free is available and if not if they can pay to get in and still flier. its the least I can do to show my support.
Sorry this recently has become a sore subject to me.
