I was just wondering what PC apps you Laptop DJ's use. I'm having a hard time affording all the tracks I like on wax, and was looking for an inexpensive alternative.
Thanks,

can't help you as far as programs, but i will say this:
good luck finding those tracks in any other format. a friend of mine bought final scratch to avoid buying records. he was convinced that people would be ripping their new records to mp3 and putting them on the net or kazaa for people to download. he was WAY WRONG. he can't find ANYTHING on mp3. the only stuff he can get is what is available on dj mix cds, and they don't have the full intro/outro.
i'm not opposed to the idea of using other technology, but it is very hard to find new tracks on anything but vinyl.
good luck

I'm assuming you mean for FREE. Downloading mp3s way ahead of vinyl on many labels is now available for ~ $1.50 ; there's many posts about this and if you go to teh label web site sor HOOJ.COM, etc etc you'll find 'em
Programs like Tracktor, PCDJ etc are all out there, as is final scratch... but these have significant h/w requirements ($$) attached as well, so....

yeah, i was primarily talking about for free.
also when he got final scratch there weren't very many download options. the only one i was aware of at the time was hooj.com.
one other problem, although it probably doesn't affect you folks as much, is that out here in montana many places can't get high speed internet, and where it is available, it is really really expensive. 50+/month.
other media formats are becoming more available, but i still think vinyl has to be the media of choice right now for having access to a large amount of new material. perhaps not by a large margin, and perhaps not much longer though.

Final scratch is awsome!! More then i can say in words. As for mp3's most major labels are putting up Down Loads on there sites! BIG hit for 12" more and more dj's are useing CDR's and MP3's as a format to put out there demos so theres not a as long waiting pierd to get it playing! On that matter...If you are a Seattle TOP or Play alot here in the city ..I have a shit load of D&B promos not out till this summer and winter. I dont play D&B but if you do and have a name for yourself please let me know for i will let you pick out some of the new hot tracks...same promos that HIGH CONTRAST & BBC Radio one gets.

i'm not looking for new tracks, i'm looking for old tracks. what i'm trying to do is play tracks ripped from a cd, so i dont have to purchase cdj's.

Traktor is the most common. A hybrid version was introduced with Final Scratch v1.1
Dont' be a laptop DJ. the only kind of laptop show people want to watch is live PA.
Buy some turntables and do it fo real yo, and final scratch if you feel the itch.

Final Scratch is for producers who wish to play out their OWN tracks or tracks that cant be released or other various goodies. It is not by any means a replacement for CDJs or Turntables. If you wish to DJ, buy some tables and get on with it. Dont beat around the bush.
Yes, I agree Laptops are for live shows only. And like buying vinyl is a bad thing ;) Its a freakin addiction!
FS is a good program indeed but I feel you only need it if you are a producer caliber DJ looking to expand your musical horizons.
Turntables are da shit. That is why they have lasted for so many years. The CDJ will not replace them anytime soon nor will Laptops.
That is all. Im out!

You can use the new traktor, but if you have decks I would check into Final Scratch. They just released a new version that is compatible on Windows 2000/XP and I have heard some good things about it. It is spendy though, but it is money well invested.
I have plans in the future to buy it, but money is really tight right now...
