snare seems out of place.
please, educate me as to how YOU would have done it :)

well, i would have panned the snare center and eq'd it to fit into the mix a little better. maybe tightened up the amp envlope and layered with another sample or two as well. the snare sounds really far back in the mix.. also the bass seems to have too much presence. the compression might be a little heavy on the drums as well...

lol, okay this guys on top of that question... =)
werd.. good ideas, very constructive feedback that i can work with! snare is panned center but i hear you on the eq.. god i wish i had flat response monitors.. i did fuck with the amp envelope to give the snare a more gritty low-bit sound, maybe it backfired.. as far as the sample itself, it is made up of 3 snare one-shots workin overtime, and i dont think i'ma go over 3.. which part of the drums sounds overcompressed? kick? snare? hats? the whole kit?
what did you guys think of the synth work? please, pick me apart!

my bad on the snare panning.. i meant shifted to mono, the way it is now with the long reverb tail and width.. reminds me of 80's rock. with the amp, i would shorten up the sustain and release quite a bit, with drums i usualy shape most of the sound with the decay stage of the envlope and try to leave a tasteful amount of the sounds tail with the sustain and release stage...
on the compression - hats are sounding like they being compressed with the rest of it... i could be wrong. but it sounds like its pumping too hard. maybe your compressing the whole kit? i try to avoid hard compression, and work more with drive/saturation and careful eqing.
synth work seemed ok, but needs to be eq'd better, turned down some.
thanks for the thoughts man, the mixdown is one thing i am trying to get more solid on.. can't wait to get some nice monitors..
