View Full Version : People still listen to Techno music?

As in the style, i.e. Detroit/Berlin flavored electronics?
Rob Hood, early Hawtin (plastikman, fuse, circuit breaker, etc), Juan Atkins, Flashing Eddie, Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm, Tobais Schmidt, Jamie Lidell, Sub Head, Cari Lekebusch, Adam Beyer.
Hard, mechanical, Sonic Groove Records sounding techno?
I'm dying here in portland, can anybody point me towards a crew or night that caters to this type of music. Everything is trance or uninspired house where I go.
Do kids still like minimal, jacking beats run through distortion at 145 BPMs with blippy monosynths twerking around the rhythmic structure??
(for a perfect example of what I'm looking for, see early Peacefrog era Neil Landstrumm).

check out a renegade rhythms show at the 1201, they do techno stuff there at least once a month it seems.
Yeah, I like that stuff still too

Yeah, I feel like I should just buy one of those $700 tr-909s off ebay (with a side order of korg's Electribe synth) and start doing this stuff myself..
Btw - will you be playing rough music at cheers? How does one get a chance to play at that place? Dropped by once, liked the vibe a bit (fyi: i'm not a dj).

Look for lilRoj or myself playing out around town. You can occasionally catch a set from either of us.

sorry for the BSP but it had to be done. Techno is not dead like some may think. I just went back to my roots and bought a decent amount of straight up techno that I will most definitely be dropping on the decks.

i fucking love techno.
we have a few producers in town (pdx) too.
namely primal and ian lehman. Check out: http://www.abiotic.net/
the upcoming show with the advent and murat at 1201 on the 23 of march (http://www.nwtekno.org/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66879) will be hype.
i like bleepy, john tejada techno too... he will be gracing the holocene this thursday the 4th (http://www.nwtekno.org/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67685) with his dope sounds.
i like many forms of techno, but my favorite is bleepy minimal stuff, with dope basslines and minimal swedish stuff..... it's the best to mix.
word.

are you going to the Matthew Dear show? you should.
are you going to John Tejada the next night? might wanna do that too.
i know, i know, hearing techno in this town can be few and far between and there's still only small pockets of heads who really are into it. house will always rule here, especially the west coast wine-bar style. Seattle seems to have more techno stuff going on. ever go up there?
ps: this is 7875 btw.

Primal's (Marcus) CDs always contain his own tracks. His newest is all his own tracks mixed lived on two rs7000's.

Gotta represent for bangin' techno beats!
However, it's a mutha fuckin' beeyatch to get booked to do hard techno live PA sets in this town no matter how good you are. It seems that people don't give a crap about the people who actually make the music or even the people that make the music then perform it live.
Hence the reason I am outta here and off to Belgium.
See ya! :D

From what i heard Belgum is still tekno land, but the rest of europe is shifting to house. I'm heading to Danmark and Sweden in a week, should be intresting to see what the scene has been doing there.

From what I know, its still bangin' over there....... no house really. You'll find, trance, techno, hardhouse, hardstyle, hardcore. Good luck its fun there. Don't forget to go to Amsterdam and catch a rave over there. Go to a record store named "midtown" and ask for good parties and sh*t, explain your music taste and they will help you out.
Good luck & have fun.
