I used to have an awesome pair of JVC headphones I got for $60 about 8 years ago.. until I lost them. Now I'm in need of some pro-quality headphones of the same sound quality, for about $80-$150. I've read about the industry-standard Sonys, but I tend to think Sony is overpriced and crappy quality. Any other ideas? Toss me some brands and model numbers.

My advice is just go to Guitar Center and try a bunch on and read the specs. You could take all of our advice, but they're going to be sitting on your head for a couple years, not ours. They've got that 30day return policy if you decide you don't like them.

Pioneer HDJ-1000

GuitarCenter online has them for slightly out of your price range, you can always get them used on ebay for about 100 bucks.

Buying them from GuitarCenter is worth it though, if you get the warranty. They will replace them up to two years, which believe me has already saved us about 400$. They hold up well, but using anything a lot causes wear and tear.

The Sony 700s.

Why? They sound great, have the ability to be driven with an insane amount of power (so what you're playing loud you can still hear yourself), more comfy than the Pioneers.

BUT, BUYER BEWARE. the do break sometimes. there is a $2 fix around this though. Go to your local GC (Guitar Center) and as to talk to someone who knows something about DJing. You can buy a SMALL wiretie (or ziptie, etc.) and wrap it around the cup swivel and superglue it in place ...

lookin sexy foreva.

after big headedly breaking two pairs of the jetsons style sonys, and having the pioneers break in the same place,... I reccomend searching for the ministry of sound headphones available from Europe. they dont have that lame pressure point that the other two do, they are WAY more comfy, and the price and specs are the same. The silver is a little more mature, and less barbieliscious.

I just bought the new pioneer headphones and find them to be a lot more comfortable than the sony 700's. ( separated shoulder is a bitch when you're lifting it to listen, pioneer fixed that prob with the hdj 1000
)

without a doubt, spend the extra $20 for the pioneers over the sony 700s... you can almost guarantee the 700s will break at the joints, and who really wants to zip-tie their $130 headpshones?

My vote is for the Senn 280's...great phones. But Jizosh had it right when he said to try em out yourself, as phones may be comfy for one person and not for another.

The pioneers take the cake in my opinion.

Although they do lack comfort it is mostly do to their tight fit and only becomes a problem if you wear them in place for extended periods of time. DJing you'll be moving them around and what not. I have had mine for well over a year and they have retained the tight fit unlike the sony MDR 700's which helps a lot to accomodate all the funny ways djs like to wear their headphones.

I had about three pairs of sony's 700 i went through, i use the pioneers now, they are still haven't cracked (granted i hardly play out anymore, all of the sony's got heavy use). Overall the sound in the pioneer 1000s is much more bass heavy, and they feel a lot lighter than the sony's. Once you get use to them you will never go back..
I say go for the pioneers

I'm with Demon. Definately the Sen's. I've got a pair of HDJ's I rotate in once in a while, but for overall comfort and performance the 280 PRO's dominate. Don't waste your time or money on the Sony's. I (as so many others) have broken multiple pairs.

Peace.

Definately Sennheiser... I have a pair of hd-25's and they're great. They're much much lighter than the sony 700's (anyone who owns 700's will tell you they are a little on the heavy side). They also have a pretty good range in terms of volume... you can literally turn up the volume all the way without little or no sound distortion. They're a little more expensive that sony 700's but well worth it... plus each part is replaceable so if something breaks you don't have to buy a new set.

yep, those are great! I <3 these headphones!

The only negative I think is the cord isn't coiled (no stretch).

seinhesier hd-280's all the way

great sound.. plus the isolation is wicked..

nothing like putting on your can and having them quiet the outside noise..
can't go wrong for 100USD

however they do look dorky as all get out..

i don't care though!

my vote goes to Sennheiser HD650, although if you dont have $500 to spend, get the HD280 Pro...
