First of all, there really isn't a problem of the posts on this section of the Board. I've only had to move a topic twice simply because they were better off in different section. However, I feel that it is my responsibility to outline what topics I believe are appropriate for this section and what kinds of topics will be deleted or moved. It's best to do this beforehand so that I don't have to make up stuff after something objectionable ever happens.
Second of all, I am a firm believer in the First Amendment and freedom of expression so I'm more apt to broaden the definition of what belongs in here than to narrow it. I'm more apt to look at a borderline topic and try to find reasons why it IS appropriate for "Collaboration" than to try to find reasons why it isn't.
So here goes:
These are the things that will be deleted:
1) Non Rave/Techo related SPAM. Defined as topics that are introduced to sell a product that is not related to raves/parties/music. I don't feel that there is any place on the Board that allows for that so I will delete them.
2) Duplicate entries that do not have any responses.
3) Blatant Hate Speech. If someone calls a Raverboy a "dork face", then I'll move it to Rave Related Topics or Personal- Friends, but if someone calls Raverboy a "fa-got, n-gger, dork face" then I'll delete it. I know this can be debated, but I do feel that I cannot in good conscience allow that kind of speech in the section I'm responsible for.
Many people might wonder why I won't delete topics that are "personal attacks." While I find them stupid and not very wise (they usually end up shooting themselves in the foot anyway), it's not so bad that we can't just ignore it, and if a person wants to be an idiot then it's their choice. But this issue can go either way, and I'm choosing to move such topics to another section and I respect the right of the moderator of that particular section to delete, move or keep it.
4)Drug dealing or asking about "scoring" illegal drugs. I'm all for legalizing drugs and responsible drug usage, however this is not the place for selling or buying them. Duh! But I do feel that it is acceptable for people to collaborate on researching drugs and drug safety etc.
5)Posts that seem to genuinely threaten violence to a person or group of people or their property.
These are the things that will be moved:
1) Topics that are obviously better off in another catagory. In other words topics that have nothing really to do with "collaborating" on something. I'm defining collaboration as "working together in some undertaking with a spirit of cooperation."
I'm thinking that most of the moderator's actions will be because of this reason. Specifically I have moved topics that are: "Please come to my party..." type posts, which I feel is more of an "Upcoming" thing. But if it were, "Please come to my party and help with the decorations..." then I would have kept it in there.
2) Topics that start off as collaboration but the 25+ posts afterwards are about something else. There's nothing wrong about this but it might be better for everyone if it was in it's proper location.
I welcome any comments or questions. Again, please understand that this is not some attempt to control or "police" this section, it is simply a way of informing everyone of the guidelines I plan on adhering to.
