i just bought a laptop, and i need to get a decent soundcard so i can record mixes and such.
i was thinking about the m-audio audiophile usb.
anyone got anyother suggestions?

If you have firewire there is also a firewire audiophile. Or pretty much any M-audio that has the right inputs would do well.

i have seen the firewire version. it costs another 100, and i'm not sure if firewire is better or not. what are the advantages of firewire over usb?

it's a shit ton faster.... less latency.
it's worth the extra $100.

I'm using a little soundblaster external. It has RCA in and out and optical in and out... $60 cheap, just so I could get my stuff onto a laptop and out to the world.. Works well so far, clean, good sound.
