View Full Version : Untalented Movie Directors today

The 80's thread has inspired me to creat a new thread.
I think some directors have lost talent in movie making these days. Movies were just better back in the day because of story telling and imagination and using very interesting ways to film a scene. Today, all of the directors use stupid special effects which sometimes ruin the movie and story telling. They are using special effects as a crutch and not a bonus, which should be the other way around. They are losing interesting ways to film a scence that's imaginative and instead choosing often times lame and cheesy special effects. I just think directors today are losing talent.

Ooooh...like in The Matrix, when the trippy, freeze and pan effect first started being used, and now EVERYBODY and their mom uses it? I hate that effect now, because it's been so abused. And there are no original story lines in movies being made now (it's been this way for awhile). They're always just like a movie from way back, but tweaked just enough so that it takes you a bit to figure out where you've seen it before.

Yeah, some people rely too heavily on special effects to try to carry their movies, but also keep in mind that the vast majority of filmmakers and screenwriters out there suck yak nuts, flashy eye candy or not.

Case and point...Anacondas (#2, and yes, it actually IS a sequel). I guess the studio never got the memo that Anaconda (#1) was one of the WORST MOVIES OF ALL TIME!

I have actually decided recently to stay as far away from the studio films as possible. I try & go see or purchase as many independent films as I can. I'm so tired of movies with lack of content that only pander to 14 year old boys (the only demographic that can buy into all the mass marketing that comes along with the studio films).

I'm also damn sick & tired of that water effect. You know the one from The Terminator & everything else (including the TLC video for Waterfalls.) That effect used to be the most over used effect - until The Matrix graced us with their now over used effect.

Blech...... there's no more originality to the movies..... plot? story line? Nope - you're not gonna find that in Hollywood these days.
