Okay so I was thinking back to when I first started going to parties, how you had to call an info line to find out where the party was and so on and so on. My question is what happened to these parties in PDX? Does anyone still throw them? As a hard house/NRG dj it is hard to get gigs in Portland with no real party scene. The only scene is the club scene around here. So I am looking to see if underground parties at warehouses and stuff are fesable anymore? Basically looking for some feedback.

Look into how much everything will cost you to do legally, than look into who's willing to risk it all illegaly. After checking it out, you'll see why warehouses are out now.

there are people that would risk it, but probably not anywhere near the size you've got in mind. and if they were taking said risks and were wise they wouldn't talk about it on a public message board no doubt. it's not like the old days anymore that is for sure.

you know i agree with you 100%..i wish they would bring the warehouse parties back...best thing to do would be to have everyone chip in and actually rent a warehouse. probably would never happen but it would be legal at least.

Its sad but its all about the money. I think the crackhouse law is really what changed the whole scene. People are afraid to throw big parties for fear of being busted. But dont worry, the scene has always changed. I think were on the upswing of this little club depression.

don't know why you have problems with the 'clubbers' ???

I'd rather go to clubs than parties now...because I love the music and at 29 I just don't get as excited about parties...been there, done that, didn't just buy the tshirt but designed my own...it's played out...I'd rather relax at a nice comfy bar/club and hear the music of my choice all evening, where it's legal and I can get a few red bulls and vodka and there will be some people at least a little closer to my age around! no offense youngin's...I have no problem with young people, but over 18, over 21 even better;) I will ALWAYS though be down with the outdoor underground variety, even if it's just me and a handful of friends...my roots...

don't look at it as being over run by 'clubbers'...we aren't all that bad...

Sorry Charlie, it takes more than renting a warehouse to throw a "legal" party. Event permits, fire permits, EMTs and that's IF you can even find someone to rent a warehouse to you. True enough, you can find warehouses in Seattle but here in PDX it's almost impossible. Everybody here wants to throw a warehouse party, if YOU can find one, let's throw a party. As for an illegal party or a "break in" party, you chance not only going to jail but also the soundman losing his system, the laser guy losing his lasers, the lighting guy and so on..... I WISH YOU LUCK!!

Well I know about all of the permits at least but it seems like no one is willing to try at least. Everyone is only focusing on the negativity about all of this. What's with the I can't and There's none of this or that...c'mon if there's a will there is always a way.

Someone who is really cool HAS to own a nice warehouse in portland..
Cool enough to let portlanders throw parties in, at least.

its not about being cool, you have to understand that its a huge liabilty to rent your land/building for a party. I mean even with insurance, what if someone gets stupid drinks a bottle of g and dies, law suits fees, legal nightmare... People who own things like this have every right to be weary especially with all the negative press. Back in the day, it just wasn't something that was in the news all the time.

ATN: It has been tried, accross the country, legally. Lets not forget portapotties along with al lthat staffing and insurance fee's by the way Rob.

AND MUST I REMIND YOU PEOPLE A WAREHOUSE IS JUST A WAREHOUSE! It's not some magicaly building that everyone enters and instantly digs the music 600 times more and dances harder, it's a fucking warehouse, nothing more!

okay, so I know this warehouse that could be possibly rented out. It is over by city liquidators kind of. I am down with talking specifics privately if anyone is interestied in getting involved.

It's people who don't know what the hell they're talking about that bring it down far worse. Everyone keeps advocating getting permits for parties, and chastizes those who don't... do you know just what it takes to throw a permitted outdoor event ? NO YOU DON'T! Or hows about warehouses? DO you know what it takes to legally make a warehouse work, and not lose your ass doing so? OBVIOUSLY NOT!

Some people don't realize that things sound grand in concept, but it often makes for the worse practice. It's irritating to see people telling you what needs to be done who just don't know.

I can respect that you did find a warehouse, now the question to see if it's feasible to use. Most likely, it'll be a tough thing to pull off.

i would love beyond anything to give it a try but i would need more help than myself

So instead of posting "I wish someone would give it a try" post something like "Want to get together an underground old school warehouse party but need help with everything from logistics to setup"

Then the people in pdx might come and help or might not but either way you are then trying to help and do something cool rather than just bitch about what should be.

well, if i was in portland, i would be more than willing myself, but i am in eugene, and we just had a blast doing REVOLT!
it was seriously something to strive for.

anyway, i KNOW there are people in pdx who would be down to help out, since you seem to be really agitated by the lack of parties, maybe you should get some of these people together..

yeah i really should. i'm not really aggravated by the lack of parties it's more the fact that we don't have any all ages ones that much. Big props to Gaia Tribe for their party this past weekend though.
