which CDJs do headliners look for?

I'm thinking about eventually buying some skratch cd players for the company. I have heard a few people mention that some "big" dj's insist on pioneer cdj-1000s, and that only 1 person in Seattle has them. If they are one of those things that is in demand and will rent itself out immediately I may be able to shnag some. Part 2 of the question... what about the Technics cd's? I have more than a little suspicion that soon THESE will take over as industry norm... in which case I'd be better off with those.

So if the rental price was going to be fair regardless, would you as promoters be more likely to need Pioneers or Technics as time goes on?

I don't know about the technics cdj, but I know that the Pioneer 1000 is almost exactly the same as the pioneer 800. The biggest difference is that 1000 plays MP3's and the 800 doesn't.

I have never had a dj complain that they were using my 800 instead of a 1000.

Plus, they don't have 1000's anymore, they upgraded to the 1000MK2.

The 800 I got was 560 bux.... WAAAAY cheaper than the 1000, or 1000MK2...

Most headliners require at least the Pioneer DCJ1000's or the equivalent, but like Mike said...I don't think too many would complain about the 800.

I have heard nothing but horrible things about the technics cd players.It seems the only thing they make good is turntables and they should stop there.

I prefer using the 100s over the 1000s, both are good decks. The 100s keep it simple. Easily portable to bring your own to a show and you don't have to worry about having too much room next to turntables with certain configurations. :)

I already have a pair of 100s... maybe I just need one 800 to skratch on then...

but when national / international dj's request pioneers will they settle for 100s? I'm trying to invest wisely, and help make things available to promoters that are scarce...

if 800s work fine, plenty of other people have em and I might as well put the money right now into a laser or a video projector...

depends on who you book and what arrangements you can work out with them directly or through their agency.

if I were to invest in a pair would they be something you as promoters would be interested in renting out?

*edited to add* all of this is a hypothetical right now. I'm *considering* selling off my JBL/QSC system so we can build up our new Vega/Crown system, and so I can get skratching CDJs and some Mackies (to team up with, not compete against ;) , DSI for Mackie walls and to save my back on the weddings and highschools I do). So first I'd hafta sell some shit...

then I can buy the best CD players :)

I had to do a project for one of my classes (involved getting price quotes, etc) and I can get a Pioneer CDJ1000MK2 for $935.

I don't even know if that's the best price 'cause I didn't do much comparison shopping (since I wasn't actually looking to buy)...

There is a CDJ1000 listed on 123dj.com for $899.99 currently though...they list the CDJ1000MK2 for $1149.99.

Does anyone know the main differences between the 800, 1000, and 1000MK2?

the 800 has all the basic features and an easy to use loop section. the 1000 adds wave display (shows the peaks and valleys in the levels of the song) and uses flash cards to store cue points and samples. If I am not mistaken the MK2 adds MP3 capability and a SD card drive you can use to store loops or whole tracks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Both the 1000 and 1000MK2 have an MP3 Function....
