Who wants to help me learn Liquid?

Yo everybody,
I was just thinking about my ability to dance, and I think I want to get a lot better. I'm alright, I suppose.. flexible to some degree, strength a bit, stamina mucho.. but I just don't know what to do! Can somebody who is superfly at liquid pop me some email? We can hook up at some parties.. I'll treat you to whatever you want! You just gotta teach me to be badass at liquid. No liquid, no nookie. :P

am I the only one that thinks that this line is being miss enterprative? (Although the other possibility isn't much better.)

I hate the flame the newbie game but some just make it so easy. Sometimes I wonder if I sounded this when I was starting out.

We need a liquid revival . . . that dance has gone dry . . . argh if I see one more groover . . . ! LOL . . .that sounds oddly familiar.

I don't know much liquid but I do know some basic stoke moves . . . if I see you at a par T I might be willing to take sometime out to show you some basics . . . I say... just watch people. It's probably not to hard to pick up on. YES! watching ppl is the best way to get inspired . . . I know sometimes dancing with better dancers makes me better . . . I get more ideas by seeing what they do . . . oh and at par T's if you want to find the good dancers don't look in the middle of the crowd . . . there gen isn't room enough to do more than hop. I usually find the good dancers in the back or at the edge of the crowd. And most importantly DON'T INTERUPT A DANCER WHILE HE IS DANCING! If you like what they are doing . . . wait around for a li'l while . . . watch . . . take notes . . . he's bond to stop eventually . . . then ask questions.

I suggest doing about three tabs all at the same time and dancing like a mofo...that is the surest way to learn how to liquid.

Well, I've got to go with antiplur superstar on this one... But yeah, just watch people. If you like what they're doing, try to copy it... If you can't copy it on your own, wait until they stop dancing or something and ask them to show you how they were doing what they were doing... I always feel pretty good when people ask me how I do stuff... Makes me feel like I actually can dance (which is a debatable point)... But hey, if you see me/I see you at a party and you want me to teach you a bit of what I know, just ask; I shall do what I can.

Im gonna have to agree with Antiplur on this one. I think if you want to learn how to dance, find someone at a party whose style you like and ask them if they'd be willing to show you a few moves. Most of the good dancers I've met are happy to show you some moves. And as you get better hop into some of those dance circles, or go battle with a good dancer you see.

Drugs can help I must admit! I learned a shit load of liquid while I did E and it helped. Acid is good too but I think popping and acid go together about the best. I know I do my best dancing on good acid.... but not too much of it. images/smilies/smile.gif

Most important thing is to do what feels natural and practice it. I know when I want to learn a new style I practice it everywhere, work, lunch, with friends. Practice makes perfect and you can practice dancing almost anywhere. And don't let ppl tell you that one style is better than another. Everyone has their own style and if liquid fits you than do it, find other ppl who do it and dance with them, the important thing is that you're dancing. images/smilies/smile.gif

And if you see a skinny white guy, about 5'10", with a goatee and moustache, doing liquid or popping, say hi and I'll show you some moves that I've picked up.

It's all about gettin your bob down. Learn your own personal base-groove, then work from there. To me dancing is easiest to learn when you start simple. I've seen this with all the best dancers I know too. Get a simple rythm for your body so that your arms and other extensions can follow.

The best dancers i know are balanced and seem to have an equilibrium, or center of gravity, somewhere around there midsection or hips. This allows them to utilize as much of their body as possible without having to shift their weight very much, reducing the chances of having their rythm thrown off.

Basically i agree with Liza, it just comes. But in my opinion you shouldn't expect to just get good by working on complicated arm and hand movements. Your arms should be an extension of the beat radiating form your body. That's why i say start by finding a bob, or base-groove.

Those are just my observatrions and opinions folks, obviously they don't apply to everybody.

I think he's got the right idea! Liquid is a dance you have to learn when you're fucked up. For me it was a six pack, but then I'm a light weight, and an originalist... I've got 13 yr's of ballet behind me, and my own sense of dance. Listen to the music, all you need is rythm.

Personal rant: Seattle you are a bunch of dance snobs!!!! It doesn't matter, it just matters that you love the music and move to it!!!

werd mason! he reeks of frat boy! i've never been into liquid. i decided to not even bother with it cuz everyone and their mom did it and thought they kicked ass, when in reality the REALLY sucked. i realized i sucked bout the 2nd time i poked my eye with my fingers. i leave it to the professionals =o)
