After making a name for themselves on the lively house party
circut, DJ Anjali & The Incredible Kid introduced the Portland
night club scene to the sounds of Bhangra, Bollywood, and Asian
Garage on New Years Eve 2000. After a six month residency at the
legendary Blackbird, followed by a stint at the Kalga Cafe the duo
began hosting sold out ANDAZ dance parties at Lola's Room, before
making their home at Fez Ballroom in the Fall of 2002. For nearly
two years DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid have packed the dancefloor
at the Fez the last weekend of every month, selling out on a regular
basis. In order to satisfy their growing fan base, they have added
the wildly popular twice-monthly ATLAS (with co-host/DJ E3) at
Holocene.
Taking extreme measures to quench their fan's thirst for only
the
newest and hottest sounds coming out of London and India, Anjali and
The Kid regularly travel to India, New York, British Columbia and
points undisclosed in search of the newest gems to shake the bass
bins and rock the dancefloor.

Johnny "The Big Cheese" Mozzarella always knew that he would take
the stage and the ladies' hearts. As a child, Johnny emulated the
moves of Travolta, the lyrical magic of Sammy, Frankie, and Ricky,
and the killer smile of Dick Clark. A natural "ham" on and off stage,
young Johnny would hold neighborhood talent shows to showcase his
over-the-top persona. Perhaps it is his penchant for hair product and
obsession for "really good cheesecake" that makes him the toast of
the town. www.johnnymozzarella.com
Johnny is a member of Portland's premiere drag performance
troupe, DK PDX. In the duo, "Easy Cheese," Johnny Mozzarella has
teamed up with fellow DK PDXer, Oliver Easy to portray Hall and Oats
and Goose and Maverick from the 80's blockbuster, Top Gun.

Bhangra is a hundreds-of-years-old Panjabi folk music from
Northwestern India. Bhang=hemp, and Bhangra was the hyped-up
soundtrack to harvest time, as well as weddings and other cultural
celebrations. After partition in 1947 many Panjabis resettled in
Britain. For 25 years now these musicians/producers have been mixing
the thunderous sound of the double-headed dhol drum with electronic
beats ranging from hip-hop, house, d'n'b, techno, you name it. You
know it's Bhangra when you hear keening Panjabi vocals, the rapidly
plucked strings of the tumbi, and the pounding of the dhols. However,
anything else can be a part of the mix.
Bhangra is NOT Asian Underground (aka Six Degrees approved label
"Asian Massive."). It has nothing to do with tablas or sitars or
Indian classical music. Consider it India's "crunk" music.
