Hi,

I am planning on an outdoor event and I have pretty much everything I need... except a good space. I am aiming for the NW region of Oregon and SW region of Washington. Like anywhere between Eugene and Olympia. It does not have to be huge, I'm planning on like a 200 people max party. I was thinking either a nice beach location or in the woods. If its in the woods it needs parking space and a flat ground to dance(Perferably with a view). If on the beach it needs to be away from civiliation (well both locations do) for this will be without permits. And the more Beutiful the location the better! Also, maybey something nobody has used before.... Please if anyone has passed something like his while camping or traveling PLEASE tell me... I know the must be alot of places like this but driving around oregon aimlessly i dont think would do it. Any feedback would be great! I know somebody out there must know of a location like this...

I've been to a party in the Hood Forest but unfortunately I have no idea where the exact location is. It had an amazing view...alright dance area. (We were dancing on stumps in the morning!) Exploring for yourself is the best answer I can give you. There is a multitude of locations which haven't been used before.

Why can't you discover your own location? All it will take is a few hours out of your time. That's what its suppossed to be about!! Innovation; not doing the same thing as others have. Threw an outdoor party in the fall and my partner and I drove around for hours looking for the perfect space...you might just enjoy the scenery along the way while you are looking. And its really not that difficult to find an outdoor location in this grand ol' NorthWest!

Yeah, its all well and good to go looking for your own space... but after you find the perfect place, how do you find out who owns the land and how to get permission for its use???

if its public its ok... as long as your not charging (making money off it) or distributing alcohol it's OK.
You should also get licening from the city.
But that takes a while...

The rock quarry near Estacada is good... its been used a whole bunch, but its still got a good dancing area, ample parking space, and has a spectacular view. I don't know exactly how to get there, ask AlexNUMB or one of those production company ppl.

actually if its public land it is NOT ok. There are still rules and regulations on public land usage. if it is national forest property, you have the right to assemble up to 75 people. You do not have the right to play amplified sound. This requires a special permit. If you wish to aquire this permit, there is usually a whole bunch of other regulations you most follow as well. Even if you get these permits, they can still shut you down. my advice - fuck permits, but be smart.

I have been throwing free outdoor parties for years. Here is my advice. sort of a little outdoor party guide.

Look at a GOOD map. Those road atlas things work great... where it has every state and all the roads... you can buy them for like 10bucks at the gas station. Find dirt roads that lead off into nowhere on national forest service property. Go out there, and spend a day or two hunting for spaces... bring a tent and plan to camp out.

when you find the ideal space, scope it out for a while... see how much traffic travels by. see what else is nearby. It should be away from any other campsites, stores, major roads, etc.

Now, get naked. And walk around for 4 hours. If you are not comfortable enough to get naked and walk around for 4 hours in that space, then chances are its not a good place for a party.

Next step, and most IMPORTANT! Dont post public directions. If you throw an outdoor party - BE SMART. promote selectively to your friends and people you meet. promote word of mouth, and person to person flyering. Dont put flyers in record stores, or leave them at other parties.

IF you REALLY want to promote on the internet. do NOT put an infoline #. My advice is keep the party off the net completely (however private emails to your friends is OK)

If you follow these steps, you should probably have a bust free party, but that is never 100% for sure

I have thrown about 20 or 30 outdoor parties in the past few years - only one has been busted.

Thanks for the info! I should be able to apply that to my space hunting!
