oly kids are cooler than sea town kids and here's why... it cause of the scenesters- if you don't know oly you just dont know what i mean- but they are SOOOO cool that it just rubs off on the rest of us-- forrest check it i'm soo cool that i got hired at otto's !! wooo!! the coolness abounds in o-town!!

ack.... you've got to be joking me. Everytime I see a scenester in Oly, all I can think about is how cool it would be to give them a superweggie, throw their thick glasses in a bush, and light the synthetic fabrics they wear on fire. They annoy, irk, and pesture me more than you can ever know. The worst part about scenesters is their outlook on music:

If it's not produced by K records, it's second rate.

And that's sickening. I mean, I can understand supporting a local scene and all, but when you ostracize those who don't wear the poly pants from dumpster values in downtown oly, or own 302387982 albums from K records, and don't like sleater kinney *gasp* or bikini kill *doublegasp*, it's no wonder that I want to strangle you into admitting that pop culture is cool :P

Believe me we're not all hippies, but believe me also when I say that hippies are people too images/smilies/smile.gif. At evergreen there are hippies, people who hate hippies, wanna be hippies, skater kidz, ravers, shut-ins, geeks, cool geeks, lovers and haters. i guess the main theme is, don't let outward appearance affect who you talk to because no matter how people look they come as varied as ravers and types of tofu at the co-op. anyways, welcome.

I know that this thread is long dead but I haven't been here in awhile so I gotta throw my two cents in...

I've done a lot of studying of Olympia. I even taught it's history to 4th and 5th graders. I started hanging out downtown when Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy and Bratmobile started making news. I lived in Oly for 10 adult years and did pretty much everything.

I hate scenesters too but I also owe a lot to them. A lot of them are still friends of mine so I know who they are and they aren't really that bad. But some are idiots and some are snobby bastards. We can say the same thing about party people.

Anyhow, after moving out of Olympia and to a larger more boring city I've come to realize how cool Olympia is. Even though a segment of the population tends to look alike, there's a freedom in Olympia to be creative. If you think their isn't then you haven't been to the artistically opressive midwest.

It's all relative. I miss Olympia.
