SODA returns!
The Lineup:
The Wanteds
Tommy Harrington is The Wanteds, an auspicious one-man band rising fast from the Portland music scene and making people question the notion of what it actually means to be in a band.
Best known for his confessional songwriting and energetic live shows which range from a technology-savvy wall of sound to unamplified stand-in-the-crowd acoustic sets, if so provoked. The Wanteds is completely engrossing and appropriately kinetic for a SODA crowd. We know you trust us at this point, but we love The Wanteds, and have to tell you how cool he this set is going to be.
Quiet Countries
We happened upon Quiet Countries a bit lateit seems hes already known and loved by everyone. To wit:
"Leb Borgerson imbues his solo project, Quiet Countries, with a natural conviction that hints at genius. Wielding a baritone guitar, he loops dissonant melodies with a Line 6 pedal and layers booming beats, syncing them perfectly with the mathy evilness of the guitar. His voice cuts through with tortured lines like, "we can't keep wrapping ourselves in plastic but we try , we try, we try"; in the process, he obliterates the traditional role of the singer/songwriter, combining meaningful lyrics with modern modes of musical creation, filing out the heart that is absent in much electronic music." Kevin O'Conner/The Portland Mercury
Yeah, whatever, The Portland Mercury. Well, actually, Kevin is right--isnt he the guy from Talkdemonic?
Justin Byrnes
Every so often, Justin Byrnes makes his way down to Portland. The last time we were fortunate enough to have him was during the dizzyingly tight SODA 3. The waiting is over. One of Seattles top up-and-coming Techno mixers, Justin is a known commodity in SODA-land. You will dance to this mans session. Its not even optional. Check out his web site for original music, mix downloads, and a link to the funnest anime Flash game known to man.
Lamb
New Yorks DJ Lamb is at the head of a new crop of underground techno DJsthe sort of DIY chaps that make their own afterhours happenings the exclusive and chic bits of dirty fun that they are.
Too bad hes got to up against the SODA cats; well see who really knows how to party. Catch DJ Lamb at 10 oclock sharpSODA 7 will be very strictly scheduled (out of respect for all the great talent).
31 Avas
SODA regular and KPSU deejay 31 Avas needs no introduction. We keep insisting that this techno-goddess keep coming back, because she makes the warm-up set into a work of art. The One True Thing, she deftly pops SODA into 2nd gear with her sublime movements of blippy, lowdown ambient all the way into powerful SODAesque dance rock. Wed tell you to love her, but you already do, so whatever.
Mr. Romo & Corban Lester
Late this night, fabled KPSU jock Mr. Romo & The Cancer Fags saucy little trick Corban Lester combine to form your SODA resident DJ axis. Amidst poppy European electro and Techno, the tag-team of Romo and Lester layer original beats, remixes, turntablising, and pure jell-o. They bring order to the galaxy, and rule it as father and son. If SODA is where you first learned to love modern electropop, you can thank these two guys for not screwing it up too badly on your way to the door.
