New server and other big things!

You may have noticed the site was dead for much of the day yesterday. This is because we moved over to a brand new server of our very own, and it didn't go quite as smoothly as we hoped.

The good news is the site should run much faster and be down much less often than it was before.

The bad news is, we lost about a half day's worth of posts and things -- if you posted between 1a and 3p on Mon, Jan 9, it has been lost. You will need to post again. We're very sorry.

Other things:

@nwtekno mail was announced to be cancelled back in Sept. It has been running up until yesterday, when it was actually disconnected.

The site has not been redesigned or upgraded in about 4.5 years. That is sad. One of the reasons I haven't done anything with it is because of our crappy server situation. Now that's been resolved, a new and improved site should be coming soon.

Money: We are still hosting with Dreamhost, but they are no longer donating the service. It will now cost us $99/mo, which I don't think should be a big deal. If you'd like to support, you can donate via PayPal. When the new site goes up, there will be more ways to support the site.

2006 will be a big year for NWTekno, just hang with us guys.

So I'm guessing the date/time thing will be resolved eventually?

Woo Hoo for no more server busy!!

Note on the color scheme though - If you do change it, keep us 'undercover at work' people in mind. If NW tekno wasn't so vaguely windows colored, I couldn't be on at work at all. But since it blends in so well to work-related colors, I'm on all the time! So please don't make it all black and purple or something really obviously not work, haha.

Okay, the time should be set right now.

We went down again for a little bit, but then came back up with more memory in the machine, so that seems like a fair trade. Hopefully we're solid now.

..on the color scheme, I'd like other options also but I'd probably stick with the original since it's so burned into my mind. I'm assuming vBulletin will allow a choice between original and new when the time comes?

color choice - as if I have a choice, I really feel it's up to you guys since it's your baby. but I would like to put out my thoughts on the layout. if the color did change - I would hope that the layout doesn't change too much, or drastically. I don't frequent any other message boards because the ones I have seen look so unprofessional & juvenile. I think you guys did a great job of setting up this board's layout. it leaves a good impression & looks classy (well, & by that I mean as classy as a board can get with a bunch of jaded ravers). I trust it'll all be ok. but I am excited to see new things soon.

I concur. In my cube it's pretty hard to get away w/ surfing because of wild colors. I actually think these colors are fine, but if you must change them, please keep them "work safe"!

When the pea green/grey color scheme was first introduced a few years back I didn't think much of it but now it's really grown on me. NWTekno's restrained design is very distinguished compared to the visual clutter and pop-ups on other pages/sites. The design also caters to everyone's tastes because it doesn't scream "this is a junglist website covered in camo" or "this is a trance website full of photos with unnecessary lens flares." It just is, and it has held up quite well for a site that deals w/ ever-changing rave and youth culture.

If or when changes are made, please just keep it classy and "work safe" as a few folks before me have suggested.
