Electric Avenue - free friday weekly @ the chac
i'll be frank - i wasn't expecting this night to do so well. weeklies in seattle are hit and miss. but it was packed full of cute, cool people and good music... so much so that the bar ran out of mixed drinks and by the end of the night was only serving shots.
i'm really happy that there seems to be a new weekly near my house that's going to be reliably good =]

Yeah, i checked it out this week, and it was pretty cool. Weren't that many people early on (that's always the case everywhere anyways), but people kept trickling in and it looked to be a good night. I couldn't stay long and only saw a bit of novatron/shapeshifter. Those guys are always great.
Since bodyrock at element fridays is ending soon, this may become my friday party spot of choice.

I had TONS of fun playing on Friday. It was a great privilege to open for Nova, hear Charlie B's stuff, kick it with the UHF crew and finally get to play CHAC. People should seriously come support.

Great crowd! I love the mix of goth/industrial peeps that come down from the upstairs fetish night. Adlib tore it up from 10-midnight with that electro breaky shit that he could probably describe better than I. Novatron and Shapey always represent proper and last Friday night was no different. Much thanks to everyone that played...especially Charlie B who wore two hats last Friday (promoter and DJ).
Very cool to see so many people at the loft space/afterhours later on. (Got your message Swank, hope you're feeling better).

I've been twice; I'll be back. I've been favorably impressed with the music and the crowd. I'm one of those fetish people who goes upstairs occasionally, and I've been pimping Electric Avenue to the rest of them.

Word.
Thanks for the props, homies.
I was very impressed with the professionalism showed by the UHF crew. Upon arrival, they had a seperate turntable & scratch mixer already set aside for me and Charlie B took us strait to the bar after set up!
Great job, Adlib! You have some ill breaks in your crate, yo!

Now I want to be clear that I think the DJs were great and this is not a comment on ability, simply that I expected house music like the night with Jacob London, so I was a little taken back as the night progressed.
At the beginning: Awesome shit. Bleepy, bouncy techhouse and minimal techno (trainspotted some Jeff Samuel in there), but the shift to progressive house & tribal house wasn't for me. Still had a wicked good time and as always, those bartenders make some disgutingly strong drinks. me gusta!

Thanks for your response Brandon. Originally, we were going to run with a progression from Peter Evans (the minimal/tech you enjoyed) to Bo (playing electroclash) into Eric Miller (playing the proggy/electro/tribal fusion) but decided at last minute to flipflop it. Personally, I enjoyed the progression of the sounds, and from what i saw on the dancefloor, most did as well.
the next couple of weeks will be right up your alley though. This coming week is our acid house night, featuring dab, manos, and recess. The week after is the Knight Rider Inc. night featuring Travis Baron, Mchetau, NAHA, and Justin Byrnes. Hope to see you out.
Oh ya..and intro yourself to me next time! I'd love to meet you.

Unfortunatly I also missed out on this one...(it was -21 in MN last night BTW!) but here is my take on it. Quoting Swank from our interview for the Data Breaker column in The Stranger:
"Our goal is to create a night that focuses on high-energy DJs and live acts of many genres, yet in a relaxed, friendly, and fun environment. We aren't here to do a head-nodding, chin-rubbing excursion into abstract sounds. We're here to throw a hands-in-the-air, scream-for-no-reason, and dance-till-your-feet-hurt party."
I love Green Velvet's lyric that we have dubbed the theme of the night: "We like electro. We like retro. We like ghetto. House. and. Techno."
I'm glad that you enjoyed the evening (especially Peter Evans, he is an awesome DJ), and Dickie continues to impress (get me drunk with those strong ass drinks) at the bar!
Next week will be another great week at Electric Avenue with DJ Dab, DJ Manos, and Recess! Hope to see you there!

thanks for the review. it's good to hear that the UHF crew is holding it down. with respect to programming, i'll let the guys who are promoting this night chime in, but i will say that i, personally, love the idea of a weekly that evolves and varies in its progression. variety truly is the spice of life for me.

I couldn't make it last night because I was promoting My Bloody Valentine is Shameless, so I don't really know what happened with the music progression, but I think that UHF should get props for mixing it up. So many people in the Seattle electronic scene are caught up with electro and the techno revival and frustrated with "mainstream" progressive, tribal and deep house. But I think they sometimes forget that those styles became mainstream for a reason, namely, there were some really good producers making some really good tracks. There is a lot of crappy progressive, tribal and deep house out there, but I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I bet the UHF guys were playing some really good shit. Hell, I play electro, techno, progressive and whatever floats my boat, and I think all have great qualities. Jizosh is right. Variety is the spice of life. Variety expands consciousness.
Just my opinion.

See, that's the thing, the music was on point, but I had a pre-conceived notion of what would be played, based on a previous night there. I agree with the evolution of the sound and where things move to and I don't want to make it look like I felt the DJs sucked, because it's quite the contrary.
