Regardless of "intent" behind their words, quality poetry is NOT:

pink fluffy bunnies in the sky
I love my boyfriend when I'm high
but I seem to find when I come down
Its not him I'm humping on the ground
Why is it I think I feel the vibe..
but its just the dicks of ninety-five?

Ok... so I'm over-exaggerating a little (ok, ok, I'm over-exaggerating a LOT)

but I'm sorry, a good 95% of what was written in Expressions was

1.) Some dumb flame war with Nick
2.) Some dumb flame war with Nick
3.) Some dumb flame war with Nick
4.) A bunch of boring, syrupy, rehashed, emotionless love themes saying essentially the same annoying thing over and over and over again. Reading Expressions is like watching Speilberg movies. Occasionally you see something cool, but in general you KNOW its going to be a bunch of sappy, annoying and meaningless shit that attempts to masquerade to the average person viewing it as thoughtful and interesting.

So good riddance.

Go post your "art" somewhere where it belongs.

just because, but that is more than enough reason, if I was a proffesional poet, I'd hate to see my art form get degraded like that.

The real question is, what was the original intent of the board in the first place? Was it your intention to have it grow to 6,000 people and have them be in control of what the board becomes? Or was it like you made the board as something of your own, and if thousands of people come, then fine, but it was never intended to have the reins handed over to them over the boards direction? Because if the latter is true, then people may be complaining about the direction of something that wasn't theirs to direct in the first place. Personally, I think if the majority of people feel a certain way, like bringing back an old forum, and enough valid points are made supporting why it should be brought back, then it should be fine,(although I agree on why expressions was removed). I think in the end though, most of the decisions are for the good of the board and not to go on a power trip, although I personally dont understand why responding to the Buy/Sell/Trade was taken out, unlike I Saw You or SO, this forum was never overrun by people not following the guidelines for that forum. Theres no room to make fun of anything there, its just people selling stuff, and other people buying.

i don't write poetry so your sarcasm is... well, kinda misplaced.

And lets face is.. 95% of all romance poetry is based around 4 things: I love him, i love her, damn him, damn her.


It's kind of like the scales of music. Regardless of what it sounds like, all we hear is between the 12 scales of music.. Some of it is what YOU like, and some of it is mindless shit. However, who are you to judge what makes art?

And another thing... When the forum was open ,The only posts that said anything about the poetry were phrased in such a caustic manner that the immediate response was a resounding 'fuck off' by everyone present. I saw no offers of "hey, lets work on this... " or "it might be better if..." All i saw was self righteous people saying how horrible a thing is because they might have written some poetry in school and been told how good it was by someone who really didn't care eitherway.. That set the stage for people to not take it any more seriously than they had been doing. .
How are YOU going to react if while you are working on something someone you don't know comes along, looks over your shoulder, and goes "that fucking sucks.. it's mindless and lame. stop it right now". Are you going immediately go "Holy shit! you're right! I suck. I'll stop it right now"?
If that same person were to ask about it and talk about it, would your reaction be any different?

I understand that some people liked having those forums, but they're gone, so GET OVER IT. If you don't like it, create your own damned board with all the crap you want on it. So you have to go to a new website, big friggin' deal...

Sorry, I just think we should all be grateful to have this board to post on anyway... and not bitch about what it has or doesn't have. Try going to other sites for other parts of the country... some of them are so basic that it's just silly. We have something great here... ya know?

why should one be grateful for something that does not meet what one expects of it? that's sort of like being handed a 20, when a 50 was expected. It's free, so i suppose that same logic could be a applied to it it's free, so why would anything be expected.

call me crazy but i would think basic and simple environments are the best environments for conversations to take place. a decent example being at parties.. you try competing with a stack of mackies, and get back to me on that one.

there's a reason a lot of 'simple and boring' bbs's survive.. it's because they don't cater to all the 'neat' things that are useless, but which we have been told are useful. An example of that is "Polls". Polls are a neat idea, but they should be kept in a separate area from the main posts.. All they do is clutter the main page up especially when marked as being 'stickey'(yet another brain storming sourced 'feature')


As i have mentioned on other bbs's in the past, for better or worse, it's the users that make a bbs, the ops only rent out the joint.

So, If someone does a favor for you, do you then yell at them for not doing it exactly as you would like? If someone does just hand you a 20 instead of the expected 50, do you get pissed cause you're "jipped" the 30 bux or are you happy to just have the 20? Something is better than nothing, ya know.

I agree that basic and simple environments are the best for conversations. And since I can't hear all that well, I doubt you'll ever see me even try to compete with a stack of mackies... but you can still communicate at a party, just move away from the music a little (yes it can be done) If you're at the party to talk then by all means do so, in a spot that's not so loud. That I have done and done with ease. However, this board still does offer plenty of places for communication to take place, just in different ways. So we can't post poetry here any more. If one feels inclined to do so, it can be done in any number of other places on the web.

Really... if anyone does not like what this board has come to, if it no longer meets your expectations, by all means, make your own. You deal with trying to make each and every board kid on your board happy. It won't ever happen.

no. i think it's far larger than i would've ever liked it to have been. and with the growth came an influx of people who don't understand the original concept or care, either.

yes. i asked a few friends to help mod because it was getting out of hand. then right and left people started asking me to be moderators. then later they started going off about how bad my decisions were. makes me wonder why they wanted to mod in the first place.. but yeah, that's another subject
