dJ dAb's career has spanned well over a decade from disco, hip hop, new wave, acid house, techno, breaks and back again. He’s influenced globally and has seen trends come and go but one thing that remains true is his love and respect for electronic music. He has an extensive knowledge of electronic dance music and his enormous collection of vinyl parallels his musical past. His current range of styles include funky, tribal, techno, progressive, electro, retro, deep and tech house but provided the opportunity he will gladly throw down a set of old school acid house, techno and breaks. Given that his roots were based in hip hop, scratching plays a major role in his set. dJ dAb’s energy level cascades up and down from mellow deep house grooves to hard slammin’ tech beats depending on the environment.
dJ dAb a.k.a. Sean Ober was born in Reno, Nevada but raised outside the greater Seattle area in Tacoma, Washington. 1983 was the year his interest in the underground scene started with early hip hop culture - scratching, breaking and graffiti. During the mid-late 80s he produced tracks for many local Seattle-area rappers... J-1, Video Villian, T-La-T and E-Dawg (Mix-A-Lot Posse... check the B-side of the Baby Got Back 12"). But, it wasn't until the acid house explosion of 1988 that he realized his dream, when he opened for Rob Base and Dj EZ Rock alongside Chicago breed rapper MC Slice. From '91-'95 dJ dAb released many independent full-length techno / breakbeat performance based excursions under the name Disk Data Corrupt and started his own recording studio, Solid Rate Studios. Since, he has been consistently releasing mix CDs, introducing what he believes to be 'Future Music'.
In 2000 dJ dAb found himself working with fellow DJ and recording artist Donald Glaude (Funky Tekno Tribe) as the alias 'Digital Pimp'. Their first single 'Lost In The Matrix' was featured on the mix CD release of 'Donald Glaude - Off the Hook' (Moonshine Music) and was also released on dJ dAb's new up and coming techno label (Free Records) which now, alongside house label (Free The Funk) features material from Chris Anderson, DJ ESP Woody McBride, DJ Vitamin D, The Mile High Club, The Floorfillerz, Sean Biddle, Jacob London, Rick V, MattLok, Rennie 'Dubnut' Foster, John Unger, Martin Venetjoki, Hakan Lidbo, Tim Trip, Angel Alanis, A. Mos, DJ Roman and Jelo.
dJ dAb's remixes can be found on 'Jon Lee - Smoking Dope EP' (RedHanded Records) and on 'Frankie Vega - Turbulant Disco EP' (Phunked Up Records).
Between running Solid Rate Studios, Free Family and a busy DJing schedule he's also found time to release tracks featured on Moonshine, RedHanded, Phunked Up Records, Free Records and Free The Funk. This is just the beginning!
And two of your favorite local DJ/producers, Vize & Kem NBA!
