DDR [Live PA]
Triphazard.net // UK
A veteran of the London underground dance scene since 1990, DDR has unleashed his own brand of techno-trance on many labels and at many parties, raves, clubs & festivals around the globe.
A central player on the U.K. free party scene, DDR could be found running the sound system at parties and festivals by Full-On and Bedlam in the early nineties. Following on from this it was not long before he was bringing his studio out to these events to play music to the masses directly from the machines.
A pioneer of what was to become the London Acid Techno sound, DDR was the first guest producer to appear on Stay Up Forever after a meeting of minds with the then newly created Liberator DJ trio, he has had a hand in many of their most memorable releases and is one of their most prolific artists to date.
Through working with the Liberator DJ's, DDR met with DJ Choci of Choci's Chewns and was soon at the helm of the Chocolate Factory studio where many acid-trance stormers and proto-hardhouse/nrg classics were born. Moving on from Choci's studio to start his own labels with Mark Kinetec of Kinetec Records and Infectious distribution, DDR designed and built a fully equiped, state of the art studio and mastering facility that was the birth place of Hazchem, COSHH and many of the Infectious in-house imprints.
DDR has continued to produce records for a slew of labels such as Smitten, Cluster, Routemaster, Input, Yolk, Skankadelic, Superconductor, Wah-Wah, etc and has honed his skills as a live performer travelling to many places around the planet with his flight case full of equipment.
DJ Amber
iamthedj.com // Sister SF
Amber is a San Francisco-based techno and tech-house DJ and producer with a driving beat and aggressively risky mixing technique in a town better known for its laid back house style. Three CD releases, “Live with Friends and Family” (2004), “Gold” (2002), and “CityDweller” (2001) have put her unique mix into the hands of thousands. Her latest track Your Love [Whatwithall], written with co-producer Russ Arteaga, is featured on the CD ”Altered Evidence” (2004), a compilation CD including remixes of original tracks by the group Karmacoda, with sales benefiting San Francisco Late Night Coalition (SFLNC).
In 2003, Amber co-founded NorCal DJ and Music Production Academy in San Francisco, where she develops and instructs DJ courses. She is also a recurring guest lecturer for the UCLA Graduate School of Musicology course on “The History of Electronic Music”. Amber is a resident with the San Francisco branch of Sister USA, the most recognized cross-genre, all-female DJ collective in the world. From 2002 - 2003 San Francisco Bay Area locals watched Amber on television as Host of :CODE, a nightlife and electronic music television show. Amber and her projects have been featured in Remix Magazine (US), XLR8R (US), Etc. Magazine (US), Karma Magazine (US), Szene (Germany), the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Magazine and numerous online publications. Amber has also been featured in two documentary films, “Generation E” and “Vinyl is a Girl's Best Friend”, and has been a featured panel speaker at Remix Hotel.
Resembling a mad scientist excitedly concocting a new potion Amber exhibits creativity and accuracy on the decks, delivering each new track with a flurry of tricks. It is this ability that has earned Amber tremendous attention not only from the crowds, but also from event promoters who have called Amber “one of the most skilled DJs I have had the pleasure to see”.
Suff-x [Live PA]
Muti Music SF // Virus PDX
Suff-x, one of the Northwest's premier live electro-breaks acts, has been producing broken beat for over 6 years now. After having studied music technology at the University of Oregon for 4 years, and moonlighting as a pro audio tech, his production skills have been honed to a fine edge. His dynamic live set consists of sample triggering and juggling two Roland SP-808s and a Korg Kaoss mixer, as well as various effects. His ability to scratch using both Kaoss pad and Dimension Beam simultaneously have left many a trainspotter tripping on their own tongue. Influenced by nu-skool breaks, IDM, and drum'n'bass, Suff-x has developed a techy sound highlighted by his insane drum programming and "bogus" basslines. Also in his repertoire is Suff-x's role as a sound designer, and resident performer for the Portland-based breaks collective Virus Breaks, which hosted appearances by Tipper, Atomic Hooligan, Incredible Melting Man, among countless others. With the recent 12" release of "Electro Medicine" on Muti Music, Suff-x looks to bring his chopped beats and basslines to a wider audience.
Sappho
Lick! SEA // Crush PDX
DJ Sappho was born and raised in the nerdery. Raised on a steady diet of prog-rock and musical factoiods, it's no wonder that she is a consummate record collector. She began her journey into the world of techno music in 1991 when, at the age of 14, she attended her first rave in Dallas, TX with, the most excellent Deee-Lite as the showstoppers. She continued to party her candy raving-ass off throughout the 90s. In 1999 she finally garnered the courage to step off the dancefloor and behind the decks. DJ Sappho is one of the most widely known and loved DJs in the Pacific Northwest, having played with the likes of Audion, Gold Chains, and IQU.
Sappho currently holds residencies at the monthly Seattle dance party "Lick!" and a bi-weekly at Portland lounge "Crush." She is known for her unusual ability to mix practically any and all styles of music (much like a Cuisaneart)!! From grime to micro-house to cheezy pop to straight up T E C H N O. Sappho gets a dance party going and keeps it going till everyone is all sweaty.
