[July 21-25] --- ##### Phoenix Festival 2005 ##### --- EAT STATIC, COSMOSIS, & more!!
PHOENIX FESTIVAL 2005 -- WAKING THE DRAGON
July 21st to July 25th
Klickitat, Washington
www.phoenixfest.com
Phoenix Festival is an annual autonomous music and arts festival which takes place in late July in the scenic Pacific Northwest, USA.
5 years ago some madcap fellows with a vision came together to throw one of the largest outdoor underground electronic music festivals in the northwest. Over the years they braved rutted cattle-fields in minivans, zany Baptists, weeks of dust, strained relationships, extreme sleep-deprivation, crucifixion, and various digestive ills due to an overabundance of Red Bull.
From their brilliance, their dedication, and their suffering was born the Phoenix Festival: three nights and three days of local and international music talent, visual and performance art, and collective creation.
What made the Phoenix Festival so special, and so rewarding for its weary progenitors, was the community that came together in those three days to connect, celebrate, and create.
Festival Passes are good for the entire weekend. Camping and parking are free.
EAT STATIC (Mesmobeat/TipWorld/Solstice) UK
www.eatstatic.co.uk

Eat Static are Merv Pepler and Joie Hinton, the duo launched Eat Static in 1990 and toured in parallel with the Ozric Tentacles for several years. In 1994, they left the band to pursue Eat Static full-time.
Eat Static's dubby Trance stylings attach aquatic textures and deep space effects to hand-crafted beats. Weightless Ambient backdrops seal off these mind-expanding soundscapes with a mark of tripped-out bliss. Although most often associated with the psychedelic trance genre, the band actually span almost all forms of dance music, including trance, techno, gabber, drum and bass, and breakbeat. As such they are well-compared to other hard-to-categorise children of the British elctronic music scene, like The Prodigy, Underworld, Orbital and Leftfield..
TIPPER (Tippermusic) UK

For those of you who attended the festival last year, you may recall Tipper killing it on the Breaks stage, well he's back again this year with a full arsenal of new material. Fuel Record founder, Dave Tipper is simply a prodigy of electronic sound. He helped found Fuel (along with owner Richard Warren) when he was still a teenager and since then has proceeded to assault breakbeat fans with his seasoned sound of snarling basslines, abrasive breakbeats and warped, alien-abducted atmospheres. Now on his own label, Tippermusic and with a new release of original music out, we are expecting great things from his appearance at the festival.
COSMOSIS (Holophonic) UK

Cosmosis (aka: Mumbo-Jumbo, Laughing Buddah). Some of you may remember his performance at the first Phoenix Festival in 2000 where he cracked brains with a 3 hour live PA and 3 hour DJ set on the final night. He is one of the original artists that, along with Total Eclipse, Hallucinogen, Man With No Name and Astral Projection, pioneered the Goa and Psy-trance sound in the early nineties, releasing one of the first Psy-Trance artist albums, Cosmology, in 1996 which is generally regarded as one of the classic Goa albums.
Chris Carter CHRIS CARTER (TCR Botchit & Scarper/Forged/Premiere Artists) UK

Musician, Producer and DJ, Chris Carter learnt his engineering skills whilst at the legendary ON U SOUND working with the likes of Adrian Sherwood, Little Axe, Asian Dub Foundation, Audio Active and Bim Sherman. Since starting to produce his own music in 1997, he has had a steady stream of releases on a number UK based breaks labels. Jointly responsible (with BLIM) for one of the break scene’s biggest vocal tracks (as Kasha on ’U’, featuring Shara Nelson) he has since had releases on TCR, Botchit + Scarper, Forged, En:Vision, Secret Agent and Track Records amongst others, earning him a reputation as a master of well-crafted dancefloor tunes.
Nick Taylor (Australia)

Nick Taylor is one dj who can’t be placed in a single musical category. His sets are a cutting-edge fusion of tech, disco, punk electro and sassy house, creating a style which he aptly labels ‘Fist Funk’. "I like elements of most styles of dance music, and my particular flavour at the moment is a reflection of the punky energy which has been infecting dance music lately."!
999 EYES ov Endless Dream
CARNVIAL SIDESHOW ov thee DAMNED (PDX, SEA, Austin, New Orleans, Oakland)

Still haven't been out to the new location...
Maybe this year though!
I still miss the Klakamas-area festival! Those 2 years go down as some of the best events of my whole "electronic" life

This is THE event of the year for the northwest.... I am stoked on the dates, I hope more people come this year because of the change.
Camping out with your friends, having a crazy fun time, this event is AWESOME!! I have been to all but the very first and I really enjoyed the location last year because of how much closer everything was in relation to each other.... made for less time spent trekkin'
By your tickets early, bring as much stuff as you can (costumes, couches, games - last year... ah shit, what was the name, was it Heart-Throb?? And of course who can forget Drunken Bocci Ball on the Advanced course! ) bring all your friends.... so much great music playing the ENTIRE time.... I have arranged my trip to Mexico around the dates of this event... i will be off the plane, driving to either Glacier National Park or the Redwoods before hitting up the Phoenix Fest... CAN'T WAIT!

oh man if only if only
I wonder if I can make it to this thing. it sounds like quite a show, way better than anything i can even conceive of.
I wish every party was like this. going to rented out clubs for raves every saturday sounds so lame in comparison.
I really, really hope I can go.

yeah, I think the date-change is an interesting new angle. I think it's a good idea. Not that fourth-o-july wasn't, it just a worthy experiment to change things up. Maybe I'll get my butt out there this year. Man, too much to try and take work off for. We shall see.
